Unemployment rate
Parramatta recorded an unemployment rate of 4.1 per cent in the September quarter 2007. The rate has steadily decreased each quarter from 5.0 per cent in the same quarter 2006.,
Park management plan
A draft Conservation and Management Plan for Parramatta Park has been prepared for the management of the parklands. Public comment is invited on the draft plan which is on public exhibition until February 22.
Mortgage stress
Analyst Fitch Ratings notes eight of the 10 worst areas for mortgage stress were in Sydney's west and south-west. Guildford was the hardest hit with 5.65 per cent of homeowners more than a month behind in mortgage payments. The average Guildford household earns $7979 a week significantly less than the national average of $1027. Guildford homeowners pay $392 a week on their mortgages, well above the national average of $325.
Winner for the second time
Macquarie University has won the Premier's NSW Export Award for Education for the second time in recognition of its innovative approach to attracting international students. Macquarie has 8800 students from over 71 countries.
