Region. WSROC calls for focus on the west
The Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) has urged the State and Federal Governments to use transport infrastructure funding to invest in urgently-needed new rail lines in Western Sydney, before considering inner-city metros. New WSROC president, Clr Alison McLaren was responding to media reports that the State Government had proposed a new inner-city “mini-metro” as the centrepiece of its bid for Federal Government infrastructure funding. “Western Sydney already suffers from severe transport deficits and the situation will only get worse, with an expected population increase of over 600,000 over the next 25 years, if we don’t make major investments in infrastructure right now,” she said.
