Region. Councils financial sustainability review

The Blue Mountains, Liverpool, Penrith and Wollondilly councils were found to be unsustainable in the Review of NSW Local Government Financial Sustainability. The review defines unsustainable councils as those that need to increase rates and charges by more than double the inflation rate to get their finances and infrastructure in order, not councils facing insolvency. A council’s creditworthiness was not being questioned Camden, Hawkesbury, Hills and Parramatta were classified as vulnerable, and Auburn, Bankstown, Blacktown, Campbelltown, Fairfield and Holroyd were classified as sustainable. The review was based on 2007-08 data.
