Westmead. Professor awarded Fellowship

Professor Patrick Tam, deputy director of the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) , at Westmead, and head of its Embryology Research Unit, has been awarded the highest level of National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Research Fellowship. Fellowships are highly sought after and competitive, with recipients usually in the top 10% of their fields. His research focuses on developing a blueprint for how the body develops – how cells within the embryo develop into the different parts of the body and how that development is controlled. Professor Tam has received many awards for his contributions to the field of embryology. He was awarded the President’s Medal of the Australia and New Zealand Society of Cell and Developmental Biology in 2007, and elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 2008.
