Council to push ahead on heritage listing
Parramatta Lord Mayor, Paul Barber, said council was determined to press ahead with the heritage listing of 19 homes, regarded as "ordinary" and mostly built about 40 years ago, in Toongabbie, Wentworthville and Epping. The Sunday Telegraph reports that owners have been told property values could fall by as much as $60,000.
Mortgage stress worst in the region
Analyst Fitch Ratings said eight of the 10 worst areas for mortgage stress were in Sydney's west and south-west, with Guildford the suburb hardest hit with homeowners more than a month behind in mortgage payments. The average Guildford household earns $797 a week compared with the national average of $027 and they pay $392 weekly on payments; the national average is $325.
Lotto loot in the region
Five of Sydney's top 10 suburbs for Lotto winnings in 2007 were in Western Sydney, with Liverpool (1), Cabramatta (2) Greenfield Park (6) and Eagle Vale (10) in the financially straitened south-west and Windsor (7) in the north-west. Total prizemoney in Liverpool was $3.9 million.
