Clean energy to power 5000 homes

Enough clean energy to power 5000 homes a year was commissioned at the Eastern Creek waste management facility, last month, when five 1.1MW engines were switched on to convert greenhouse gases escaping from landfill into power and sold on to the national grid. The initiative is a joint venture between LBS Generation Pty Ltd and WSN Environmental Services, a NSW government-owned company, incorporated in 2001. Another 1.1MW engine is expected to be brought online in 2014. WSN plans to open the $50 million Macarthur Resource Recovery Park, in south-west Sydney, this year, to power 2500 homes.
