Region. Professor joins select group

Associate Professor Kasipathy 'Kaila' Kailasapathy, from the UWS School of Natural Sciences, joins a select group of world-class researchers to receive the Danisco International Dairy Science Award. It is only the third time the award has gone to an Australian. Professor Kailasapathy, who joined UWS in 1988, has been at the forefront of a specialised field focused on developing clever ways to deliver beneficial bacteria to the human gut. He said his research continued a long tradition of cutting-edge dairy research at UWS, which began over 100 years ago, at the Hawkesbury Agricultural College, now part of UWS. A panel of international experts, who evaluate the nominee’s contribution to dairy science over the past 20 years, selects the winner. The award recognises research and development in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, technology and engineering in the dairy food industries.
