Parramatta. Chinese and Indian residents
Over 40 per cent of Parramatta’s residents were born overseas. The city has a high proportion of residents born in China and India. Between 2001 and 2006, the number of residents born in China increased from 6130 to 8246, and increase of 2116 people accounting for 55.5 per cent of the city’s population. The overseas-born Indian population accounts for 4.75 per cent of the city’s population, compared to 1.2 per cent for metropolitan Sydney, rising from 336 in 2001 to 7088 in 2006, an increase of 3742 persons.
