Free Wi-Fi internet in Parramatta is stalled

The NSW Government's plan to have a free wireless internet service in Parramatta, North Sydney, Penrith, Liverpool, Newcastle, Wollongong and the Sydney CBD by the end of the year is not on the cards. The Department of Commerce said 15 expressions of interest were submitted and these were still being evaluated. "The proposals were both innovative and diverse ... the NSW Government expects to be in a position to make an announcement soon", a spokesperson for the department said.

The worst street for car thefts in the metropolitan area was Campbell Street, in the Parramatta CBD, where 50 cars were stolen in 2006-07, according to the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council. Forty-five vehicles were stolen in North Terrace, Bankstown, and 38 in McFarlane Street, Merrylands ...
