Bankstown. Seminar on aerospace industry

The Greater Western Economic Development Board will host a seminar bringing together the key industry companies and stakeholders in the aerospace business to discuss the key issues affecting the industry in Sydney. The aerospace and defence industries are facing some serious issues in the current economic climate, as well as significant opportunities. Metropolitan Sydney is home to a large range of innovative, specialist and high-tech companies servicing domestic and global aerospace and defence supply chains. The seminar will be held at Bankstown City Council, on March 25, from 8.00am to 10.00am

Region. Launch of jobs report

A Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Council’s (WSROC) commissioned report on employment strategies for the region will be launch on Wednesday, March 11, at the Crowne Plaza Parramatta. The report identifies strategies for the generation of a net additional 280,000 jobs for Western Sydney over the next 25 years, a goal set by the Metropolitan Strategy to ensure adequate employment opportunities for Western Sydney households as Sydney grows towards five million people. The report was undertaken by a consortium of leading researchers led by the Urban Research Centre at the University of Western Sydney. The report was commissioned by WSROC for the NSW Department of Planning.

Campbelltown. Innovation cluster

The NSW Minister for Regional Development, Phil Costa, has announced funding of $9000to establish the Macarthur Innovation and Manufacturing Cluster. He said the NSW Government was working with Campbelltown City Council, the Macarthur Business Enterprise Centre and the Macarthur Regional Organisation of Councils (MACROC) to make the cluster a success. He said the cluster would work to develop as local manufacturing hub in the Macarthur region

Region. $20 million claim against pair

The liquidators of failed builder Beechwood Homes have initiated a $290 million claim against the founder, Larry King and his wife Pamela King, alleging the pair engaged in insolvent trading. Beechwood Homes was placed in voluntary receivership in May 2008 with debts estimated at $70 million, according to The Australia Financial Review.

Penrith. Student accommodation at UWS

New student accommodation worth $9.1 billion will be built at the Kingswood campus of the University of Western Sydney, as part of the three-stage masterplan. The first stage of seven three-storey buildings will include 31 separate dwellings with 109 bedrooms including one, three and five bedroom units.
