Region. Chinese visit UWS

A delegation from Jinan University in Guangzhou, one of the most prestigious universities in China, officially toured the University of Western Sydney to strengthen research ties, initiate joint teaching programmes and promote staff and student exchanges between the two countries. The university is one of the top 40 universities out of 3000 universities in China. The ties between the two universities will now be formalised after representatives from the Jinan University in Guangzhou were given a tour of the renowned Chinese programmes available within the UWS School of Humanities and Communication Arts at the UWS Bankstown campus, and the UWS International Office at the UWS Parramatta campus.

Sydney Olympic Park. New GM for Accor

Scott Boyes has been appointed regional general manager of Accor in NSW and the ACT, replacing Garth Simmons who leaves after four years to relocate to New Zealand. He was formerly regional general manager of Accor in Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. Mr Boyes has been working in the hospitality industry since 1992 and commenced with Accor Asia Pacific in 1994 upon graduation from the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School.

Campbelltown. Abigroup wins contract

The Abigroup has won the tender for the $139 million expansion of Campbelltown Hospital The engineering and construction company is expected to start early works shortly on the site in preparation for the expansion in the next few weeks. All works are expected to be completed in 2016.

Kemps Creek. $49 million upgrade

SITA has lodged a DA has been lodged for a $49 million upgrade to its advanced waste treatment plant in Kemps Creek If approved, it will result in an increased capacity of 220,000 tonnes of waste being processed there every year. It currently processes 120,000 tonnes, including general solid waste and organic waste, and an additional 14,400 tonnes of bio-solids from sewerage treatment plants. The waste comes from councils including Penrith, Campbelltown, Camden, Wollondilly, Wingecarribee, Liverpool and City of Sydney. The application submitted by SITA said there would be an estimated 75 jobs generated during construction and another 20 full-time equivalent operational jobs
