Parramatta. Doing business with Defence

The Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) will hold a briefing for businesses in all industry sectors on opportunities in the defence sector through the DMO’s Business Access Office. The briefing will identify the best ways to engage with Defence and how to prepare to take advantage of potential business opportunities. The free event will be held at the Department of State and Regional Development Western Sydney Business centre, at 470 Church Street, North Parramatta, from 4.45pm until 6.30pm. on May 5.

Campbelltown. Computers and climate change

A panel of experts will explore how information and communications technology (ICT) can help the world tackle contemporary problems such as climate change, at a free forum, at the UWS Campbelltown campus, on April 24. "ICT is a major driver of innovation and is essential when tackling complex, interconnected, problems like climate change and keeping societies cohesive," said Professor Simeon Simoff, head of the UWS School of Computing and Mathematics. The forum is a highlight of an innovative conference drawing on expertise from around the world for the 3rd international United Information Systems Conference, the first to be held in Australia. Over 100 delegates from almost 20 countries are expected to attend.

Oxley Park. Site sold for $585,000

Colpani Constructions has purchased a 2188-square-metre site, at Oxley Park, for $585,000, in a mortgagee sale. Curtis Field, national director, of residential site development, and Jonathon Canavan, executive, of residential site development, at Colliers International, sold the site, at 68-70 Brisbane Street.

Fairfield. Tender for carpark

Fairfield City Council is calling for tenders for the project management, design and contract management of a multi-storey car park, at Fisher Street, Cabramatta. GM Alan Young has warned that canvassing of councillors relating to the tender will result in automatic disqualification of submitted tenders. Tenders close on May 13.

Parramatta. Doubt on leagues club's future

The Parramatta Leagues Club has current liabilities of $31.6 million, With assets valued at $3.6 million, the shortfall is $28 million, which PKF auditor, Paul Cheesman, said cast doubt on the ability of the club and its affiliates to continue as a going concern. The club lost a record $9.1 million last year. The Daily Telegraph reports that CEO, Denis Fitzgerald has sold properties worth $5.6 million. Last weekend, the club sold the Two Blues Rugby clubhouse for $3 million to the Australian Kfarsghab Association, which seeks control of the board, under the rebel 3P ticket, at elections this weekend.
