Sydney Olympic Park. Netball headquarters

Netball NSW proposes the construction of a purpose-built headquarters for the association. The works includes construction of five (5) indoor netball courts of international standard, plus one show court with seating for some 800 spectators.

Strathfield. $55 million proposal

A proposal for the redevelopment of the Australian Catholic University, at Strathfield, includes building envelopes between two and fours storeys in height, on-site car parking in basement and at ground level, improved access arrangements, pedestrian linkages throughout the campus, and consolidation of student and staff numbers and hours of operation. Estimated cost: $55 million.

Penrith. Arrival of Sydney icon

Michael Hannah, the owner of the well-known Sydney icon, Harry’s Café de Wheels, has set up an outlet in Penrith. He operates similar outlets in Parramatta and Liverpool in Western Sydney. Harry’s goes back to the depression years of the late 1930’s. In December 2004, Harry’s was classified by the National Trust of Australia (NSW) and included on its register.

Parramatta. Launch of bridge fountain

Promoted by Parramatta City Council as a “landmark’ project – there are only two others in the world – the bridge fountain on the Barry Wilde bridge, in the Parramatta CBD, will be launched on Thursday, July 26. “The Barry Wilde Bridge Fountain will complement a number of works planned along the foreshore and help make this important precinct a more attractive place for residents, workers and visitors to Parramatta, ” said Lord Mayor, Lorraine Wearne. The fountain pumps 110 litres of water per second from the Parramatta River and incorporates water, light and colour to form a visual and sensory experience.

Parramatta. Funds allocated for studies

With the impending closure of Shell’s Clyde Refinery, Parramatta City Council has allocated $55,000 to help fund the studies necessary for the master planning of the Camellia peninsula. Council has also allocated $80,000 for the Rydalmere project to complete unfinished studies.

Parramatta. 'Fine grain' amenity

In order to address the concerns of business and to help firms attract talented staff, a focus on improving the “fine-grain” of the CBD is required, according to a Parramatta City Council report. This focus includes small bars, cafes, laneway enterprises and creative industries.

Region. Industrial space demand

Industrial tenant demand in Sydney’s central west (Parramatta. Auburn, Bankstown, Holroyd and Fairfield) remained strong over the first half of 2012, placing an upward pressure on rents, according to CBRE., whose Parramatta MD, Cameron Grier. Said the lightening of A and B stock, particularly over 3000 square metres being the key driver.“ The central west continues to thrive as it offers occupiers a cost effective location and access to major road networks in the geographical heart of Sydney,” he said.
