Moorebank. Qube to press ahead

Qube Logistics expects to start talks soon with the Defence department on its relocation from part of the proposed Sydney Intermodal Terminal Alliance (SITMA) site, at Moorebank, which the department rents from the private consortium. Qube, which owns two-thirds of SITMA.is going ahead with the proposed terminal, despite plans by the federal government to build a competing site nearby. Qube expects to get planning approval for the proposal from the NSW government by the end of the year, according to The Australian Financial Review.

Sydney Olympic Park. New appointment

Cherie Nicholl has been appointed general manager, business & commercial development, for the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Ms Nicholl will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategic plans to support the growth of the largest annual event in the southern hemisphere. Prior to her appointment, Ms Nicholl was the director of partnerships at Nationwide News Sydney, publisher of The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph. Cherie Nicholl’s appointment to the newly created position is effective from September 26.

North West. Double-decker buses

The Transport Minister, Gladys Berejiklian, has announced the government will trial the use of eight double-deckers over the next two years, with the first to be in operation on the North West T-way, from Blacktown, from next week. Double deck buses can carry around 110 passengers, twice the number of passengers that normal buses can carry, and take up less road and depot space than bendy buses.

Sydney Olympic Park. Award winners

Accor’s Sydney Olympic Park Hotels, which include the Novotel, Pullman and Ibis properties, and the Commonwealth Bank, at Sydney Olympic Park, have been recognised for their commitment to sustainability as recipients of Bronze Sustainability Advantage Awards. Both organisations have taken significant measures to make real environmental improvements in their business operations to achieve this commendable accolade.

Kings Park. Retailer's profits

Women's fashion retailer Noni B has delivered a 10-fold increase in full year profits, but is not confident that retail trading conditions will improve this year. The company delivered an increase in full year profits to $2.7 million in the year to June 30, 2012, up from the $231,000 made in the same period last year. While the retailer had managed to defy the broader retail industry gloom, it was not expecting any change in consumer confidence this year.
