High ethnicity in city centre

The Parramatta city centre is highly diverse ethnically. Between 1996 and 2001, the proportion of Australian born residents in the population fell by 8.4 per cent to the stage where around 60 per cent of the population of 4896 (2001) - representing 3.4 per cent of the Parramatta LGA's population - were born overseas. This percentage varies dramatically when compared to the Parramatta LGA area where 35.8 per cent of the population were born overseas, according to the Parramatta City Centre Plan documents approved by the Minister for Planning, Frank Sartor, last month.
