Parramatta. New radio station in CBD

Commercial radio station, 2GW, has commenced broadcasting to service Western Sydney. 2GW is a sister station of 2ME a 24-hour Arabic language commercial station. Both stations broadcast from studios in Macquarie Street, in the Parramatta CBD. 2GW can be heard at 1611 on the AM band.

North Ryde. Flannery heads commission

Professor Tim Flannery, at Macquarie University, has been appointed to head a six-member Climate Change Commission to help sell the federal government’s public message about climate change and the importance of putting a price on carbon. The commission has been allocated a budget of $5.6 million over the next four years.

Libcombe. Nick Scali profit down

Nick Scali, furniture importer and retailer, at Lidcombe, posted a 5.7 per cent fall in net profit as trading conditions deteriorated during the last half. Same-store sales were down 2.7 per cent but margins were maintained despite aggressive discounting The peak selling month of January had been very strong, said MD, Anthony Scali.
