Parramatta. Ten pin bowling in the CBD

Strike Entertainment Pty Ltd proposes to use the first floor of the heritage-listed Murray Bros building, on the northwest corner of the Church and Macquarie streets intersection, for a ten pin bowling centre comprising 14 lanes, with bar and restaurant facilities. The proposed hours of operation are from 10am-3am, Monday to Saturday, and 10am-midnight, on Sundays. The centre would employ 14 workers.

Parramatta. Federal Member on the move

Parramatta City Council has received an application to use two street-level units in the new office block, on the corner of Macquarie and Smith streets, as the electoral office of Julie Owens, the Federal Member for Parramatta. Her office is currently located in The Octagon, which is to be refurbished.

Parramatta. The banking moves in the city

National Bank of Australia has approval to establish a branch in Westfield Parramatta, at an estimated construction cost of $500,000. Arab Bank Australia has opened a new branch in Westmead Hospital. Work is nearing completion of the new St George Bank’s new premises, at the corner of Church and George streets. Its current branch is nearby in the mall. The Commonwealth Bank has appointed Dallas Whitehead, as area manager, of its Parramatta business banking team.

Region. Premier gives State of the Region Address

Premier Morris Iemma, will give the annual State of the Region Address, to be held at the Waterview Convention Centre, in Sydney Olympic Park, on July 31. Mr Iemma is expected to outline some of the key strategies for business and infrastructure development, and the key expenditure areas earmarked for Western Sydney. The function will be hosted by the Parramatta-based Western Sydney Business Connection.

Sydney Olympic Park. New masterplan

The residential and working population of Sydney Olympic Park is to be significantly boosted following the release of the $154 million Sydney Olympic Park Masterplan 2030. Under an earlier plan the population of the park was to house 3000 residents, 10,000 workers and 1000 students. The masterplan proposes a residential population of 14,000, up to 28,500 workers and some 5000 students. The average building height could 25 storeys. The upgrading would comprise nine precincts, one of which would be 16,700 square metres of residential space and 287,300 square metres of commercial space. A sports and education precinct would be home to 5000 students.
