Norwest. Branch to close

Murray Goulburn Co-Operative, a milk supplier and retailer of dairy products, based in Victoria, will close its branch at Norwest as part of a restructure announced last month to reduce costs and increase competitiveness. The total workforce is set to reduce by about 12 per cent or 301 positions across processing sites, distribution centres and head office functions. The company said all employees whose roles are made redundant would receive full entitlements and staff would be supported with counselling and job transitioning services.

Moorebank. $891 million to move

Thirteen Defence units and four Defence facilities, at Holsworthy Army Barracks, are required to move by the end of 2014 to enable construction of the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal, yet to be approved by the federal government, by 2017. The relocation project will cost more than $891 million.

Liverpool. Workshop to attract business

Bob Germaine, CEO, of Regional Development Australia- Sydney, based in Parramatta, outlined the strategic importance of Liverpool as a regional city at the organisation’s second financial and professional business services workshop in the city. “Liverpool is to be the capital and right at the top end of Sydney’s south-west,” he said in the Liverpool Champion. A third workshop is expected to be held at a latter date in the city. RDA-Sydney has conducted similar workshops in locations across the metropolitan area to attract finance and business activities

Top Ryde. Centre valued at $350 million

The 78,215-square-metre Top Ryde shopping centre has been valued at $350 million. “The centre has left a $600 million hole in [five] banks’ collective pockets, so a $350 million sale would hardly touch the sides,” The Australian Financial Review said. The centre, redeveloped at a cost of $800 million by Bevillesta, was placed in receivership in February 2011.

North West. Private company for rail link

Trains on the North West Rail Link will be the first in Sydney to be run by a private company, under a plan for ''Sydney's Rail Future'' unveiled yesterday by the state government. But the government will break a pledge to allow trains from the north-west to travel all the way to Sydney's CBD; commuters will change at Chatswood. The government also committed to a second harbour rail crossing and the conversion of large parts of the network to single-deck train operations.

Region. UWS Chancellor's appointment

University of Western Sydney Chancellor, Professor Peter Shergold, has been appointed Chair of the Aged Care Reform Implementation Council. The council will oversee delivery of the Australian Government’s $3.7 billion aged care reform package Living Longer. Living Better announced in April.

Norwest. Tutorials may be early

Associate Professor Geoff Morris, dean of the School of Business, at Notre Dame University, said staff could commence tutorials, if the demand existed, at the Norwest Graduate School, as early as August several months ahead of the planned 2013 commencement date.

Campbelltown. New TAFE facilities

Up to 1000 students will benefit each years from a new $10 million training facility which opened at Macquarie Fields TAFE. The world class facility features modern lecture rooms, signwriting industry and computer rooms as well as health-related amenities to accommodate cardio, aerobic, fitness testing and massage therapy.
