First solar-powered CityRail station
Werrington station, on the Western Line in Sydney’s outer west, is CityRail’s first solar-powered railway station. The $5.4 million upgrade of the station included the installation of photovoltaic cells that can potentially contribute up to 40 per cent of the station’s electricity to power lights, drive lifts and airconditioning. “It is hoped these hi-tech cells will help effectively manage energy consumption at Werrington and potentially other stations in the future,” said the Minister for Transport, John Watkins.
