Prestons. $1.5 million re-sheeting contract

State Asphalt Services, at Prestons, has completed a $1.5 million contract to re-sheet of the main runway, at Bankstown Airport, over two weeks. Significant safety and operational requirements were in place including returning the runway to service every afternoon for overnight operations and ensuring the runway surface had no loose material on it overnight.

Region. Borders enters e-book market

International bookseller, Borders, which has four outlets in the region, has entered the e-book market in Australia with the launch of its digital bookstore. Borders is expected to undercut its nearest rival, the Amazon Kindle, which could cause prices to tumble on titles on both platforms, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. Apple launches its iPad in Australia on May 28 and Google's online international bookstore, called Editions, is expected to go live in July.

Region. MicroBiz locations

Events will be held in Blacktown, Campbelltown, Fairfield, The Hills, North Parramatta and Penrith during MicroBiz Week 2010, from May 31-June 4. This year's theme, Connecting for Profit, will see a range of experts showing how micro-business operators can increase profit and grow their business using cutting-edge technologies. A micro business is classified as one that operates with four people or less. Micro business is one of the fastest growing sectors in the NSW economy, making up 88 per cent of the state's small businesses.

Sydney Olympic Park. Minister opens Watpac

The Minister for Western Sydney, David Borger, officially opened Brisbane-based Watpac’s NSW headquarters, in Sydney Olympic Park. Key tenants of the six-storey building, which includes two levels of underground parking building, in addition to Watpac, include Fujitsu, Blue Wealth Property; and Sydney Olympic Park Authority. The company, which is EnergyAustralia’s Smart Grid Manager, Adrian Clark, engaged in construction, civil, and property groups, also built the Commonwealth Bank premises and the NSW Institute of Sport building in the precinct.

Greystanes. Shopping centre on the market

Colliers International has called for expressions of interest in the Greystanes Shopping Centre, in Merrylands Road. The property comprises a gross lettable area of approximately 5627 square metres, on a site of 17,450 square metres. The centre is anchored with Woolworths and Franklins supermarkets and 29 specialty tenants. The estimated net income is $2.2 million approximately. EOI close on June 16.
