Liverpool. Mayor sacked as spokesperson

The Liberal Party-Independents coalition, which holds a majority on Liverpool City Council, has backed a plan to make the deputy mayor the city’s spokesperson — subject to legal advice – in place of the mayor. Issues such as her stance on the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal, her lack of attendance at council briefing meetings and for being against the council's acquisition of 33 Moore Street as reasons for this action

Eastern Creek. Multi-purpose raceway

Work is under way at the Eastern Creek International Raceway to turn the motor-sport corridor into a multi-purpose venue. Raceway GM, Geoff Arnold, said a $7 million redevelopment had the support of Blacktown City Council and the state government. "What we will wind up with is a circuit that is right for pretty much anything that races anywhere in the world, bar F1s," he said. The raceway played host to the Cycle Australia Road World Challenge recently and music festivals are on the radar.

Region. Rail proposals welcomed

The University of Western Sydney welcomes proposals to develop both the Epping to Parramatta and the North West rail lines as both are essential to meeting the huge transport needs of Greater Western Sydney. UWS anticipates the Epping to Parramatta rail route will include a station at the Parramatta campus, at Rydalmere, which has over 13,000 students. Parramatta Lord Mayor. John Chedid, said Sydney commuters had been waiting for the Parramatta to Epping connection since it was first promised more than a decade ago “It is crucial that we have direct transport links to the business in Macquarie Park and North Sydney, and the workers on the North Shore to support our continued growth,” he said.

Chullora. Reduction in staff

PMP has started to reduce staff at its Chullora directories plant as Sensis confirmed plans of a massive decrease of deliveries of the White Pages in Sydney and Melbourne. Sensis, owned by Telstra, has confirmed its decision to cut 90 per cent of the 2011/12 residential White Pages directories, a fall of around 1.35 million books. Richard Allely, CEO of PMP, which has an exclusive Sensis print contract for another five years, said the reduction in volume did not come as a surprise, adding that the print group had a close working relationship with Sensis.
