Silverwater. Goodbye to corner stores

Australia’s largest grocery wholesaler, Metcash, headquartered at Silverwater, has warned that the days of the traditional corner store are numbered as consumers flock to major supermarket chains, in search of $1 a litre milk and discounted groceries, and “modern” convenience store formats such as 7-Eleven, according to The Australian Financial Review.

Parramatta. Tenders for Civic Place project

Parramatta City Council expects to have Civic Place out to tender in six month’s time. “We will possibly develop Civic Place in stages and instead of having just one developer on the project, we’ll likely have several,” said Lord Mayor, Lorraine Wearne. The agreement with developer, Grocon, for the $1.6 billion project was called off because of current economic conditions.

Parramatta. Conrols under review

Parramatta City Council said the city needs to continue to develop to become a “true city” with a vibrant centre of employment, entertainment and education. To this end, council is in the process of reviewing the city centre planning controls to encourage the type and extent of development that the city needs. This will include ensuring the future location of accessible jobs to the growing population of Western Sydney.
