Rhodes. No to privatising Australand

CapitalLand South-East, Asia’s biggest property developer by market value, has said it has no intention to privatise Australand, after increasing its stake in the company from 54 per cent to about 60 per cent, according to The Australian Financial Review. Australand is one of Australia’s major diversified property groups, with activities across Australia covering development of residential land, housing and apartments, development of and investment in income producing commercial and industrial properties, and property management

Region. UWS law students take out honours

Three University of Western Sydney law students have taken top honours in the Australian Law Students Association mooting competition, at the University of Tasmania. "The University is very proud of our three top mooters. Winning this prestigious competition is a significant contribution to the UWS School of Law and helps raise the standard of mooting across Australia and New Zealand," says Professor Michael Adams, Head, of the School of Law. All 33 Australian law schools, plus a number of invited International law faculties, entered the competition with the successful students in each category progressing to the major finals. The students were Jonathan Adamopoulos, Matthew Carr and Tim McGrath. Mr Adamopoulos also took out the competition's honourable Best Oralist Award. The three mooters have been invited to compete for Australia and UWS at the international round to be held in London.

Parramatta. Small business employment

Small businesses that employ less than 19 people made up over 95 per cent of all businesses in the Parramatta local government area (LGA), according to council’s Business News publication. Of the 14,862 small businesses in the LGA, 8871, or 59.7 per cent, do not employ staff, 4446, or 29.9 per cent employ 1-4 people, and 1545, or 10.4 per cent, employ 5-19 workers. Approximately 30 per cent of small businesses are involved in the property and business services sector.
