Penrith. Public domain masterplan

Penrith City Council will consider at its meeting tonight the recommendation that council engage Place Partners to undertake the Penrith City Centre Public Domain Masterplan. Thirty-two submissions were received. The price submitted by Place Partners was $132,375 (ex GST).

Eastern Creek. V8's return to raceway

Following an $11 million upgrade, the Eastern Creek Raceway will be the venue for round nine of the V8 Super Car Championships, on August 24-26. The state government funded half of the redevelopment of the raceway, which includes a new circuit layout, a refurbished pit lane and upgraded and better spectator facilities. Eastern Creek, the only permanent race circuit in Sydney, will complement the street circuit-based at Homebush, which will hold the Sydney Telstra 500 finale in December.

Sydney’s western suburbs are coming into their own as developers and corporations move towards the population heart of the metropolitan area. The Upper Mountains business and arts community has strongly backed plans for a multi-purpose Katoomba theatre and events venue, claiming the region’s lack of performing arts facilities is hurting the local economy.

Campbelltown. Legal firms move in

Macarthur’s legal fraternity has received a boost as more firms head to the region to make the most of a booming population and increased demand for legal services. Macarthur Law Society president, Erin Lynch, who works at Marsdens Law Group, said the number of law firms within the region continued to rise, keeping the area's legal professionals on their toes in an already competitive marketplace.

Region. Chamber presidents

Harry Hunt has been re-elected unopposed for an eighth consecutive time as president, of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce. Stephanie has been elected as president, of the Parramatta Chamber of Commerce. She served in that position in 2005-2207.

Liverpool. Proposed rezoning

The public exhibition period for the rezoning of the former Liverpool Council chambers has closed. If adopted, the proposed rezoning would see the southern portion of the Hoxton Park site change from an infrastructure zoning to public recreation and enterprise. This means the site could be developed for residential or commercial purposes.

Parramatta. Plans to double stores

Australian Pharmaceutical Industries, in Camellia, will pres ahead with plans to expand its Priceline chain despite tight credit markets and tough retail conditions. The company is aiming to double its network of stores in the next three years. The company added 11 Priceline stores in the first half, but closed six, taking the network to 332.
