Region. Opportunities for aerospace industry

The Parramatta-based Regional Development Australia (RDA) Sydney held a meeting, in Bankstown, on the opportunities for NSW manufacturers in the defence and aerospace industry and the issues it faces. “Tackling many of these issues requires innovative and collaborative thinking and a better understanding of the potential industry capabilities,” said RDA Sydney’s executive officer, Bob Germaine, in the November issue of the organisation’s newsletter, Catalyst. “It is imperative that we act now to bring together a more collaborative aerospace and defence industry within metropolitan Sydney, which supports the attraction of more national and international business opportunities and jobs to NSW.

South-West. Approval for Stage B2

The Department of Planning has approved Stage B2 of the South West Rail Link project incorporating: 11km double track rail line including rail infrastructure; two train stations at Edmondson Park and Leppington; and a train stabling facility at Rossmore, west of Leppington.

Region. Progress on Western Express

Tenders have closed for expert engineering and design consultants to plan the delivery of Western Express, between Penrith and the Sydney CBD, and the 5.4-kilometre City Relief Line, underground between Redfern and Wynyard and Transport NSW expects to release the Preliminary Environmental Assessment into the project in mid 2011. Transport NSW has called tenders for detailed geotechnical and survey work for the Western Express. Tenders will close in mid December and the works will commence in late January, 2011.
