Sydney Olympic Park. Manufacturing Week

The 2012 National Manufacturing Week will be held at Sydney Showground, on May 8-11.The event will be co-located with Austech, and will include technology, innovation and education streams reflecting the central theme, essential strategies, tools and methodologies for Australian manufacturers.

Region. Highlighting manufacturing

NSW Manufacturing Week, which will be held from May 2-6, promotes the key role manufacturing plays in the NSW economy. Events will address many of the issues relevant to the future success of the industry. The workshops, seminars and site visits are designed to show how to boost profitability through innovation, productivity and. sustainability. The Western Sydney Manufacturing Leaders Forum and Innovation Technology Showcase will be held from 1.00pm to 8.00pm, on May 2, at the Novotel, Sydney Olympic Park. Manufacturing is the dominant industry in Greater Western Sydney, contributing approximately 16 per cent of the $85 billion regional GRP, and is the largest employer in the region and the metropolitan area.

Region. Barriers to upskilling

Uncertainty about the future was identified as one of many barriers to upskilling employees to take advantage of “emerging technologies”, Gail Silman, NSW Education and Training Adviser, Australian Industry Group, told 300 guests at the Western Sydney Manufacturing Leaders Forum, the highlight event of NSW Manufacturing Week 2010. She said a study reinforced the organisations’s view that the training needs of the manufacturing sector could no longer be overlooked, if Australia was to truly benefit from the outstanding technical advances being made. ”Emerging technologies” are regarded as cutting-edge developments in technology. Other speaker at the function were David Pettigrew, Manager, Strategy and Business Development, QMI Solutions Ltd; Dr Dilip Manuel, Business Development Manager, CSIRO, Future Manufacturing Flagship; and Patrick Medley, Managing Partner, Global Consumer Products Industry, IBM Global Business Services. RDA Sydney hosted the event.

Region. Manufacturing is a key sector

Manufacturing was one of five key sectors identified by the NSW Government to be targeted for innovation-led economic growth, the Minister for Small Business, Peter P Primrose, told some 300 guests at the Western Sydney Manufacturing Leaders Forum, the highlight event of NSW Manufacturing Week 2010. He said NSW had the largest manufacturing sector in Australia and was the second largest industry in NSW accounting for12 per cent of industry value-adding in the State. “Here in Western Sydney, manufacturing is the largest industry in the region, valued at $10.3 billion, in 2007-08, or 13% of the region’s $80 billion economy employing around 100,000 employees earning around $5 billion annually Our plan for manufacturing in NSW is to ensure manufacturers innovate, remain competitive, and continue to make a strong contribution to our economy,” he said. RDA Sydney hosted the function.

Region. Leaders forum at SOP

Key leading Australian industry speakers from QMI, CSIRO, IBM and AI Group will explore the themes of new manufacturing opportunities, sustainability and innovation, at the 2010 Western Sydney Manufacturing Leaders Forum, a key activity in NSW Manufacturing Week, Western Sydney. Regional Development Australia (RDA) Sydney, will host the forum and cocktail function, at the Novotel, at Sydney Olympic Park on May 3. The event commences at 5.30pm. It’s free.

Region. Manufacturing Week in the West

NSW Manufacturing Week Western Sydney 2010 commences on May 3, with a range of site visits, seminars and other activities across the region. To-date, these include a site visit to Custom Coaches, Australia’s biggest bus body builder, at its new head office and factory, at Villawood, and events, such as, Women Standing Tall in a Changing World, at Mount Druitt TAFE and Work Fatigue – Managing the Risk, at the Business Centre, Industry & Investment NSW, North Parramatta, and Advanced Technology Manufacturing Technology: From Research to Money Maker, at CSIRO, North Ryde.

Region. Locals at Manufacturers Week

A wide range of manufacturers across Western Sydney will participate in National Manufacturers Week (May 11-14) when it relocates to Sydney Olympic Park – much closers to the heart of Sydney’s manufacturing hub in Western Sydney. Companies include Strata Group, Kings Park, Bosco Storage, Ingleburn, Cryonomic, Penrith, Laboratory Systems, Bankstown, and MSPC Australia, Arndell Park. They will be among 200 exhibitors from Australia and overseas taking up some 9000 square metres of space at the Sydney Showground. “We’re especially pleased that NMW 2010 is moving to the Sydney Showground, in the heart of Australia’s largest manufacturing region, to help the 10,000-plus manufacturing companies in Sydney’s west take advantage of the advances in technology, innovation and educational developments in store at the event,” said Reed Exhibitions’, Paul Baker, exhibition manager for NMW 2010.

Castle Hill. Launch of Manufacturing Week

The major event of Western Sydney Manufacturing Week 2009 will be the Western Sydney Manufacturing’s Forum, to be held Castle Hill, on May 18, and hosted by the Greater Western Sydney Economic Development Board. The topic will be survival strategies manufacturing companies can use to grow and thrive during the current economic downturn. The event, which runs from May 18-22 throughout the region, includes workshop seminars and site visits.
