Region. International sponsor for AFL team

The AFL's newest team, known at the moment as Team GWS (Greater Western Sydney), will be reveal next week the colours and name of the team preparing to join the competition in 2012 and its first major sponsor, said to have signed a three-year deal. The club's CEO, Dale Holmes, said the sponsor was a multinational company with a base in Western Sydney. The club was still trying to secure a second major sponsor. The team name has been chosen through a public campaign, which attracted about 20,000 suggestions.

Region. AFL targets business for sponsorships

Businesses in Western Sydney, such as, infrastructure, property and manufacturing firms, will be prime sponsorship targets for the fledging Greater Western Sydney AFL club The AFL will inject $30 million into the Blacktown-based club over five years when it joins the competition from 2011, on top of the Norman distribution of about $ 7 million all clubs receive, The Australian Financial Review reported. The AFL will face competition for sponsorship and fans, in the region, from rugby league, rugby union and soccer
