Region. Nationals call for airport

The NSW Nationals will consider whether to back a second Sydney airport at the party's annual conference this weekend, potentially placing it at odds with the state government over the issue. Two branches, Dubbo and Parkes, have put up a motion calling on the federal Nationals to ''support the immediate commencement of planning for the building of a second airport in the Cumberland Basin''. The motion also calls on the federal party to support construction of ''an integrated high speed transport system linking [Kingsford Smith Airport] with the new international airport''.

Region. Airports for sale

BAC Holdco Pty Limited, which holds the leasehold interests over the Bankstown and Camden Airports, has announced its intention to commence preparations for the sale of the two airports. The airports were privatised in 2003 and are held under long-term leases (85 years remaining) with the commonwealth government. The airports are to be offered for sale together. Operations at the airports will be unaffected by the sale process.
