Westmead. Additional level approved

The Department of Planning has approved an application for the addition of an extra research level to a project approved in 2009 involving the staged construction of a part four.five level building for the Children’s Medical Research Institute, at Westmead. Since the original approval in 2009, CMRI has identified a need for additional floor space to allow the full potential of the research facility to be realised.

Westmead. New research facility approved

The NSW Government has approved a $99 million redevelopment of the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), at Westmead. The redevelopment, over a 10-15 year period, would deliver a state-of-the-art medical research facility in a new building at the Westmead Hospital precinct. Some 125 full time construction jobs would be created in addition to up to 500 full time positions during operation. The proposal involved the staged demolition of the existing research building and construction of: a five-storey building Sir Lorimer Dods Professor and CMRI director, Roger Reddel, said the approval provided the opportunity for another 28 world-class research groups to be developed at the institute and expand Australia's research capacity and international reputation.

Parramatta. Council endorses $45m project

Council resolved to forward a $45 million redevelopment at the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), at Westmead, to the Department of Planning. The proposal is for a staged construction, over a 10-15-year period, of a project including laboratories, library, boardrooms and administration areas and underground parking Stage one will be a 6-storey building and stage two a 5-storey building. The project will house an expected 540 people. The total area of the redevelopment will be 17,527 square metres, up from 4,500 square metres currently.
