Parramatta City Council seeks quotations from consultants to undertake an employment lands study of prescribed industrial and business zoned land within the Parramatta local government area.

Parramayya. 200,000 square metres needed

Some 200,000 square metres of office space would be required to accommodate the 10,000 additional workers which Parramatta City Council aims to attract to the city over the next five years.

Parramatta. Call on Premier

Parramatta City Council will call on Premier Barry O’ Farrell and relevant state ministers seeking their support for Parramatta 10,000, a campaign aimed at delivering 10,000 new local jobs over the next five years. “The simple fact is that by 2036 more than half of Sydney’s population will reside in the western suburbs, so it is vital that we continue to provide employment opportunities to keep pace with this residential growth,” said Lord Mayor, Lorraine Wearne.

Parramatta. Top employment categories

The number of workers employed in the Parramatta local government area, at June 2011, stood at 87,946, the highest outside the Sydney CBD. The top three categories were health care & social assistance, 14,902 or 16.9 per cent; public administration & safety, 10,240 or 11.6 per cent; and manufacturing, 10,044 or 11.4 per cent. The combined total of the financial & insurance services and professional, scientific & technical services, was 13,321 employees, or 15.1 per cent. The Parramatta Economic Development Strategy notes that 23 per cent of Parramatta’s resident managers, professional and para-professionals work locally.
