Sydney Olympic Park. Park to play a role

Sydney Olympic Park, Moore Park, Sydney’s hotels, the Australian Technology Park, the Hordern Pavilion, Royal Randwick, Luna Park and Allphones Arena will play expanded roles in hosting conferences, smaller exhibitions and entertainment, following the NSW government’s announcement that an interim facility will be built on Glebe Island to temporarily host exhibitions during construction of Australia’s largest convention, exhibition and entertainment facilities, at Darling Harbour from December 2013 to late 2016.

Region. 47 per cent of the region

The gross regional product (GRP) of the West Central subregion, which encompasses Parramatta.Auburn, Bankstown, Fairfield and Holroyd, is estimated at around $40 million, according to a document commissioned by Parramatta City Council. This represents approximately 47 per cent of the Western Sydney GRP of $85 million.

Parramatta. Economic drivers

The finance and insurance sector is the major economic driver of the Parramatta local government area, with $1.9 billion, or 17.0 per cent, of the local government area's $11.7 billion gross regional product (GRP). Property and business services accounts for $1.3 billion, 11.6 per cent, followed by manufacturing with $1.2 billion, 10.9 per cent, and health and community services, with $1.0 billion, 8.8 per cent. These four sectors account for 48.3 per cent of the total GRP.

Parramatta. Increase in GRP

The major contributors to the city’s $11.7 billion gross regional product (GRP), in 2007/08, were the finance and insurance industry, 17.0 per cent, property and business services, 11.6 per cent and manufacturing, 10.9 per cent. Parramatta’s GRP, which increased by 9.1 per cent over 2006/07, contributes 5.3 per cent to the Sydney gross regional product, according to council's latest Biz Facts publication.
