Professor S. Bruce Dowton has been appointed the next vice-chancellor and president of Macquarie University. Professor Dowton is currently clinical professor in pediatrics, at Harvard Medical School, and until recently was vice president and CEO of Partners Harvard Medical International.. Professor Dowton will take up his position later this year, becoming only the fifth vice-chancellor in Macquarie University’s 48-year history.

North Rude. Uni seeks top person

Macquarie University is conducting a worldwide search for a vice-chancellor to head the institution, ranked fourth in Australia for research, with the retirement of Professor Steven Schwartz in December 2012.

Macquarie University’s director of higher degree research, Dr Yi Ren has been appointed president of the executive committee of the Australasian Research Management Society. ARMS is the professional society for specialists who manage and administer research. The executive committee is the governing body of the Society and controls and directs business, including its committees that determine promotion, policies, strategic planning and progress towards achieving its mission and goals.
