Region. Two make top 10

West Ryde Marketplace (fourth) and Cherrybrook Village (ninth) are included in the Top 10 small shopping centre table. The annual turnover, per square metre, of West Ryde Marketplace was $15,089, and that for Cherrybrook Village, $13,638, according to Shopping Centre News.

Region. Shopping centre additions

Knight Frank’s NSW Retail Market Overview, for August, notes the imminent completion of the extension of Stockland Merrylands as the only major retail development under construction within the metropolitan area. Forthcoming major retail shopping centre projects in the pipeline likely to commence by 2012 consist of Queensland Investment Corporation’s 61,000-square-metre extension to the Castle Towers Shopping Centre and AMP/Westfield’s, 35,000-square-metre expansion of the Macquarie Centre.

Region. Shopping centres sold for $93.3m

Four Sydney metropolitan neighbourhood shopping centres sold for approximately $99.3 million in 2008, with three in Western Sydney, namely, Mt Annan Central, $22.3 million, Norwest Marketown, $35 million and Circa Retail, in Norwest Business Park, $36 million, according to the latest CBRE Sydney Metropolitan Retail Marketview report. “This is an enormous fall in market activity (because of limitations to the accessibility of capital), off the back of the $1.413 million achieved in 2007,” the report noted. Stage 1 of the Top Ryde development, 36,733 square metres, and stage 2 of Stocklands Merrylands, 8622 square metres, are expected to be completed in 2010 as well as the 14,000 square-metre Cosco bulky goods outlet in Auburn
