Parramatta. Busibness forum on South Asia

Destination NSW will conduct the Parramasala Business Forum on the topic of the “Rise of South Asia and the implications for Western Sydney” in Parramatta on November 3. Deloitte will present the forum with economist, Chris Richardson, as guest speaker. Panel members are Patricia Forysthe, executive director, Sydney Business Chamber, Neville Roach, advisory board chairman, Tata Consultancy Services, and Professor Peter Shergold, Chancellor, University of Western Sydney. Parramasala, an international contemporary arts festival that celebrates the global impact of South Asian arts, will be held in Parramatta from October 30-November 6.

Parramatta. Festival boost to business

Parramatta City Council and the local hospitality and retail sectors hope the inaugural Parramatta – Australian Festival of South Asian Arts, from November 4-8, will boost Parramatta’s profile on the cultural map and set cash registers ringing. “This festival showcases NSW’s rich cultural heritage and will be a premier arts event across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region,” said Premier Kristina Keneally at the launch. “This festival showcases NSW’s rich cultural heritage and will be a premier arts event across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region,” said MP for Parramatta, Tanya Gadiel. Parramatta Lord Mayor, Paul Garrard, said: “The festival is expected to draw thousands of visitors and provide a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase Parramatta’s appeal as an events-led city. The festival is run by Parramasala Ltd, a not-for-profit organisation, in partnership with the NSW Government through Events NSW, and Parramatta City Council.

Parramatta. Links to South Asia

The inaugural Australian Festival of South Asian Arts, a major new event in Parramatta, to be known as Parramasala, will include business activities linking Parramatta and South Asia. Parramatta City Council will be involved in a committee, which is formulating plans for the festival to be held in the city from November 4-10. The festival is a joint initiative between Events NSW, council and the state government. With a budget of $6 million over three years, Parramasala will initially focus on India in 2010, expanding into a two-week program, in 2011, reflecting the cultures of the South Asian region – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
