Region. Unemployment rates

Parramatta-South, 13.7 per cent, Blacktown-South West, 12.8 per cent, and Bankstown-North East, 12.7 per cent, had the highest unemployment rates in Western Sydney, in the June quarter 2010. The lowest rates were in Camden, 3.0 per cent, Blacktown-North, 4.1 per cent, Baulkham Hills-North, 4.3 per cent and Parramatta-North West, 4.5 per cent. The figure for the Sydney Statistical Area was 5.6 per cent.

Parramatta. Unemployment on the rise

The unemployment rate for the Parramatta local government area (LGA) in the December quarter 2008 was 4.6 per cent, up from 4.1 per cent over the previous period, and up from 3.9 per cent in the same quarter 2007. The LGA figure masks the disparity in the rate across the city’s 29 suburbs. For example, the rate in South Granville at the census in June 2006 was between 10 per cent and 25 per cent, while that in parts of Winston Hills and Carlingford was 4 per cent or less. By comparison, the Small Area Labour Markets figure for the LGA, in the June quarter 2006, was 4.7 per cent

Parramatta. Unemployment rate rise marginally

The unemployment rate in the Parramatta local government area was 4.1 per cent in the September quarter 2008, compared to 3.8 per cent in the previous quarter. The quarterly figure is the same as for the same quarter 2007. The figure for the metropolitan area was 4.2, with the highest recorded in Blacktown South-West, with 13.1 per cent, according to the ABS.

Parramatta. Marginal rise in unemployment

The latest ABS figures show that the unemployment rate in the June quarter 2008 was 3.8 compared to 4.2 per cent for the metropolitan area. The figure was marginally up from 3.7 per cent in the previous quarter. The figure for the June quarter 2007 was 4.2 per cent. Blacktown-south west, with 13.3 per cent, recorded the highest unemployment rate in the metropolitan area. The Blacktown-south west figure has been rising steadily from 10.9 per cent in the June quarter 2007.

Unemployment rate continues to fall

Parramatta’s unemployment rate in the March quarter 2008 was 3.7 per cent showing a progressive fall from 4.6 per cent in the same quarter 2007. The rate for Sydney, NSW and Australia in March 2008 was 4.3 per cent, 4.6 per cent and 4.2 per cent respectively. The only Sydney metropolitan local government area, in the March 2008 quarter, with double digit figures was Blacktown at 12.4 per cent.
