Parramatta. Latest unemployment rate

Statistics from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, for March 2010 quarter, show the unemployment rate in Parramatta-South was 13.6 per cent, three times the figure for the lowest rate in the city, namely, Parramatta-North-West, 4.4 per cent. Parramatta-North-East was 4.6 per cent and Parramatta-Inner, 6.5 per cent. The highest rate in Western Sydney was Blacktown-South-West, 13.1 per cent, followed by Fairfield-East, 12.1. The rate for the Sydney Statistical Area was 5.9 per cent.

Parramatta. Dramatic unemployment rate

Unemployment rates in Parramatta are three times higher in one section of the city than another, according to the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations’ Small Area Labour Markets report for the December 2009 quarter. The report shows the following unemployment rate in four sections of the Parramatta LGA: North-West, 4.2 per cent (compared to 2.7 per cent December 2008); North-East, 4.4 per cent (2.9 per cent); Inner, 6.3 per cent (4.5 per cent); South, 13.3 per cent (9.8 per cent). In the region, Blacktown-South-West, recorded the highest unemployment rate of 14.2 per cent (13.0 per cent), followed by Fairfield-East, 13.7 per cent (10.4 per cent) and Bankstown-North-East, 11.5 per cent (9.0 per cent). The rate for the Sydney SLA was 6.1 per cent (4.5 per cent).

Parramatta. Unemployment rate increases

The unemployment rate has increased in the three areas in the Parramatta LGA, as defined by the Australian Government Parramatta-South had the highest unemployment rate at 12.6 per cent in the three months to September 2009, up from 11.8 per cent in the previous quarter, and 9.0 per cent in the same period 2008. The rate in Parramatta-North East was 4.1 per cent, up from 3.7 per cent and 2.7 per cent respectively. The rate in Parramatta-North West was 3.8 per cent, up from 3.4 per cent and 2.6 per cent respectively. The highest unemployment rates in Western Sydney were 14.5 per cent in Blacktown-South West and 14.3 per cent in Fairfield-East. The lowest rates were in Bankstown-South, 3.9 per cent, and Baulkham Hills-Central, 4.2 per cent. The rate for the Sydney SSD was 5.9 per cent.

Parramatta. Unemployment in the city

The unemployment rate in Parramatta City-South (e.g. Granville/Guildford) is 10.8 per cent, more than three times that in the city’s north-west (e.g. Winston Hills) 3.0 per cent, and north-east (e.g. Epping) 3.3 per cent, and double that in the inner area of the city (e.g. Westmead, CBD, Harris Park) 5.0 per cent. In absolute terms the south has the highest number of unemployed, with 1515 people, 1242 in the inner, 792 in the north-east and 620 in the north-west areas, in the March 2009 quarter, according to the Federal Government’s Small Area Labour Markets report.
