Sydney Olympic Park. V8 Supercars to remain

The state government said it will honour the contract to hold the V8 Supercars race at Sydney Olympic Park, until 2013, despite an attempt to move it back to its original location Eastern Creek Greens MP John Kaye said residents "hotly opposed" the event. Tourism and Major Events Minister George Souris said the deal between the former government and V8 Supercars Australia would be honoured.

Sydney Olympic Park. V8 Supercars

Promoters of the V8 Supercars event, at Sydney Olympic Park, on December 4-6, have sold 138,000 tickets, to date. The target is more than 150,000 over the three days About 25,000 corporate tickets have sold. The State Government has contributed $30 million to support the race for five years. Treasurer, Eric Roozendaal, said the event would generate more than $100 million for the NSW economy during the next five years and create 110 full-time jobs. He said it would attract 15,000 overseas and interstate tourists this year and show off Sydney as a tourist destination, via television coverage in more than 100 countries.

Sydney Olympic Park. OK for Supercar event

The Federal Department of Environment and Heritage has approved the holding of a V8 Supercar event, at Sydney Olympic Park, from December 4-6. The event is expected to contribute an estimated $100 million to the NSW economy. Parramatta, Blacktown, Auburn and Ryde councils and the Sydney Olympic Park Authority opposed the event.

Sydney Olympic Park. Opposition to Supercars

The NSW Government’s decision to approve the holding of a V8 Supercars event, at Sydney Olympic Park for five years has created opposition from the government’s own Sydney Olympic Park Authority and Blacktown City Council. The government is negotiating compensation with business in the precinct. The Commonwealth Bank, GPT Property and Babcock & Brown, all in the precinct, have opposed the event.

Parramatta. Council opposes V8 Supercar races

Parramatta City Council has opposed the conversion of Sydney Olympic Park into a V8 Supercar racing circuit.on environmental grounds and the adverse impact on residents. “The holding of the V8 Supercar race in Sydney Olympic Park is the antitheses of the environmentally friendly and sustainable built environment of the park,” council resolved in part. Auburn and Ryde councils and the Sydney Olympic Park Authority have opposed the proposal also. The Minister for State Development, Ian Macdonald, supports the proposal. The government has commissioned a feasibility study of the project.
