Parramatta. Wipro to open data centre

Indian technology outsourcer, Wipro, which opened an office in the Parramatta CBD in 2008 with 30 staff, is attempting to break into the Australian data centre market as it increases the scope of work it carries out on behalf of local clients, which include banks, utilities and telecommunications companies. Wipro CEO, Suresh Vaswani, told The Australian Financial Review, the centre would open next year as long as a suitable site could be found. Wipro employs 1000 people in Australia; one-third of which are Australians. “The skills shortage is fairly acute here compared to other countries,” he said.

Parramatta. Customers asked not 'to panic'

Australian customers of Indian IT outsourcing firm Wipro Technologies, which has an office in Parramatta, have been not to panic after news emerged that it has been barred from working for the World Bank due to improper practices. The ban introduced 18 months ago has only come to light with a similar banning of Satyam, another Indian IT firm. Wipro’s Australian clients include Optus, ANZ Banking Group, AXA and General Motors Holden. Wipro opened its Parramatta office early in 2008 with 30 staff.

Indian IT firm to open in Parramatta

Technology services player, Wipro, will become the latest Indian software outsourcer to launch a development centre in Australia when it opens an office in Parramatta in mid-February. The interior fitout at an undisclosed premises is currently underway. The initial staff number is between 35-40 employees. A Wipro spokesperson said last November the facility could eventually house as many as 200 workers.

The new software centre, which is backed by the NSW government, will handle consulting, development and testing services for Australian and international customers. Most of Wipro's clients are based in Sydney.
