Region. Plan short-sighted

The Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) has criticised the NSW government’s Transport Master Plan as short-sighted and CBD-focussed, and says it totally fails to recognise the transport needs of half the city’s population. “This plan appears to be little more than a grab bag of unfunded dreams, with no overall strategy or sense of integration with the rest of the city. I can’t believe that after two years of thinking they have come up with this,” WSROC president, Clr Alison McLaren, said.

Region. New government must commit

The incoming NSW government must commit to providing a comprehensive and integrated system of transport – including road, rail and bus networks to avoid Western Sydney grinding to a halt, the president of the Western Sydney Regional Organization of Councils (WSROC), Clr Alison Mclaren said. “The failure to adequately plan for and fund these road networks, together with the ongoing failure to provide critical public transport and rail infrastructure means the people of Western Sydney will soon literally not be able to move,” she said.

Region. WSROC will make a submission

The Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) has welcomed the appointment of Ron Christie to chair a public enquiry into Sydney’s ailing transport system, which has been launched by The Sydney Morning Herald.. WSROC president, Clr McLaren, said WSROC supported any process which would result in an integrated planning approach to public transport, particularly in Western Sydney, especially relating to the rail links to the growth centres in the North-West and South-West and the Parramatta to Epping extension. “We will, of course, present a submission to the enquiry chaired by Mr Christie,” she said.
