Merrylands. Proposal to trade for 24 hours

Stockland Merrylands has lodged a DA with Holroyd City Council for two of its stores, Kmart and Target, to extend their hours to 24 hours a day. The move follows a decision by Kmart to extend the trading hours of many of its stores across the country. In its application, Stockland said the retailer would expect to serve 50 customers between midnight and 6am. While Target is included in the DA, Stockland development manager retail Christina Nelson said the store had no plans to trade 24 hours a day but were included for “future flexibility”.

Merrylands. Approval holds up $300m project

An additional approval by Holroyd City Council has held up the construction of the $300 million development. Stockland Merrylands claims there is nothing to worry about after a slip in the construction schedule. The shopping centre had hoped to finalise plans for the last stages of its development, which includes Big W, Coles and Woolworths, by Christmas. But the RTA wanted an extra access road from Neil St before Holroyd Council could rule on the development application. Holroyd Mayor, John Perry, was confident the municipality’s biggest development would meet its target of 2012.
